US Citizens are legally required to have an entering Visa when they go to Kenya. There are quite a few perks of this. Kenya has agreements with Tanzania and Uganda to waive the re-entry fees so you can easily take advantage of your Kenyan visa and enter both countries as long as it’s valid without having to issue another one or to pay entry taxes over and over again. This works the other way around as well – when you enter Kenya from Uganda and Tanzania.

The Transit eVisa/Visa on Arrival – Visa Fees
This is amongst the most regular options that you can go for. The one that you get on arrival is going to cost you $21 in terms of visa fees. However, if you get a single-entry eVisa or Visa on arrival, it’s going to cost you $51. The prices are in American dollars. As you can see, the expenses are rather minimal. Of course, keep in mind that these provide you with one entry and that’s something that you need to account for as you would have to renew it after you use it. The transit visa is valid for an overnight stay while the single-entry one is valid for three months.
East Africa Tourist Visa Fees
This is the option that the majority of tourists go for. It’s a bit more expensive, but it’s definitely worth it. The reason for this is because it also gives you access to Rwanda and Uganda, both of which are prime tourist destinations. This visa fee costs $100.
Now, when it comes to the duration and the validity of different Visa cards, you should know that the transit one is valid for a short stopover or for an overnight. The single-entry visa is going to last you for three months while the multiple-entry one is going to be valid for one year. If you go for the East Africa Tourist visa, you can use it for 90 days and for multiple entries – this is why it’s more expensive.
As you can see, the fees of the visas are directly related to their actual purpose. The longer the visa is active for and the more entries it allows you, the more it’s going to cost you – this is something that you need to understand. With this in mind, it’s important to allocate the necessary funds for your visa as part of your trip as these are expenses that you can’t avoid. Luckily enough, it’s not expensive to get into Kenya and the surrounding countries – the visas are fairly inexpensive, and that’s definitely something that you want to take into account.
